Depending on the powertrain type, level of automation, desired braking energy efficiency, or requirements regarding vehicle dynamics and agility, we offer you the ideal configuration of hardware, software, and applications – in either modular or integrated form.

Actuation/modulation

Are you faced with the challenge of choosing the right option from the large number of braking systems available on the market? We support you in your decision.

Whether vacuum-based or vacuum-free, whether coupling / decoupling the pedal from the brake pressure on the wheel or true by-wire, whether modular or integrated packaging concepts – there is a wide range of options on the market. Do you already have a preference or are you still in the evaluation phase? We will show you the specific advantages of each option and work with you to select the optimum system. Our many years of experience and neutral perspective will help to find the perfect solution for you.

In the face of ever-changing market requirements, we are constantly developing various architecture concepts and products. Regardless of your chosen concept, we serve as a one-stop shop for all the necessary hardware, functions, and services.

Two-box solutions with specific advantages

  • iBooster + ESP®
  • Decoupled power brake (DPB) + ESP®
  • By-wire actuator (BWA) + ESP®

One-box solution as a packaging concept

The integrated power brake (IPB) is our vacuum-independent, electrohydraulic braking system, which combines brake booster and ESP® functions in a single piece of hardware. For highly automated vehicle types with a mixed platform, the IPB system can be supplemented with a redundant brake unit. This ensures reliable and stable braking in the event of a fault in the automated driving mode.

  • Braking systems for conventional powertrains, hybrid vehicles, and BEVs; our systems are expandable to include automated vehicles
  • Shorter time-to-market cycles thanks to reuse of off-the-shelf components and use of standard functionality
  • Individual consulting and adaptation based on our complete portfolio
  • Wide-ranging and long-standing expertise covering diverse vehicle segments

Vehicle dynamics management (VDM)

How do you provide your customers with maximum cornering dynamics, optimum traction, and supreme braking performance in any situation? Our answer: vehicle dynamics management (VDM), our new concept for engineering powerful functions for vehicle dynamics.

With our integrated, central system for vehicle dynamics management, we harness the full potential of all driving dynamics actuators. After all, with the usual strategy of a “peaceful coexistence” between the various actuators, combined with feedback structures and heuristic approaches, the systems sometimes work against each either . In addition, drivers perceive control interventions as disruptive to the driving experience. In contrast, the controller design of our VDM system is based on the principle of non-linear, model-based feedforward control. The result is highly natural driving behavior combined with maximum performance .

Integrated vehicle dynamics control (IVC)

The controller defines the lateral-dynamic behavior of vehicles. Modeling the intended driving behavior based on a desired vehicle model ensures particularly natural driving performance. Depending on the available actuators, the complete bandwidth of lateral dynamics can be influenced – from the linear driving range to the limits of vehicle dynamics.

Integrated traction control (ITC)

Our intelligent approach to controlling all actuators relevant to traction. Engineered specifically for the racetrack, the traction control does not slow the vehicle down with its interventions, but instead noticeably optimizes traction. Even the most experienced drivers can further improve their lap times and control the vehicle easily in drift situations.

Integrated brake slip control (IBC)

For maximum performance in all braking situations. As well as optimizing the braking distance, IBC primarily improves driving performance when braking during cornering. We also employ control algorithms that adapt to the tires and their temperatures. This guarantees consistent braking performance in changing conditions.

Integrated performance recuperation (IPR)

The hydraulic brake and e-motor no longer enjoy a mere “peaceful coexistence”. Instead, the potential of the e-machine is used to modulate the braking torque when the ABS takes effect. This allows perfect wheel slip to be achieved with maximum dynamics. This massively increases energy recovery, reduces the braking distance, and enables purely electric braking even when the brakes are fully applied.

Integrated vehicle dynamics hmi (IVH)

Our integrated vehicle dynamics interface provides you with a solution that allows your customers to configure the previously described functions in their own vehicles. This can be done, for example, via buttons, rotary switches, or the vehicle’s user interface. Greater consideration can thus be given to personal dynamic requirements, thereby delivering a more individual and higher-quality driving experience.

Integrated vehicle dynamics estimation (IVE)

IVE is an algorithm for estimating vehicle movement and tire parameters. This information can be used to optimize IVC and ITC performance. This estimation is a prerequisite for the IBC and IPR function since highly accurate speed information is indispensable for an optimum braking distance. Moreover, the estimated values can be exported to the vehicle bus and used in other functions. For maximum accuracy, we employ a 6D inertial sensor system which measures the acceleration and rotation rate in the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical directions of the vehicle.
